Slow cooker macaroni cheese recipe

No, don't worry. You've not got a bad link. This great recipe is moments away, right here

I'm gradually transferring all my Blighty recipes to a new blog called The Errant Sock. As well as slow cooker recipes, you'll get lots of other conventional recipes with lots designed to avoid common allergens, plus crafts, reviews, parenting and home hacks, all with the same dash of realism and humour that you get here. So do take a look around and let me know what you think!

Hope to see you in a few seconds over on the Sock!

  1. Hi there, I made this last night. It was so easy. It was a resounding success with my husband and both my little ones and will definitely go into my armoury of quick, easy-to-cook, yummy meals. One thing, the consistency was a bit like scrambled egg - I guess because of the nature of slow cooking? I don't mind that, I just wanted to check if that's how it should be. I added ham to mine too, and then separately cooked some broccoli (I didn't want it to overcook in the pot) and added it in at the end. Very tasty!

  2. So glad you liked it. I haven't had the scrambled egg problem except the one time I added some mustard and it curdled the milk slightly (as ready-prepared mustard has vinegar in it). It certainly doesn't make a stiff macaroni cheese with these timings, you'd need to cook it for longer, but maybe make sure you've mixed the egg very thoroughly in with the milk? A little mystified but the main thing is it tasted good! Glad you liked it!

  3. Thank you for this. Next time I'll mix the egg and milk together a bit more. But not too worried - like I said, it was delicious!

  4. Is the pasta cooked before adding to the pot? Most slow cooker mac & cheese recipes I've tried say to cook pasta first, but then they turn out mushy.

  5. No, it's meant to be uncooked which is why it's such an easy recipe. I've always had good results with the pasta coming out perfectly cooked.

  7. You can but the sauce won't thicken as well. You could maybe add a little less milk and just accept the sauce will be al ittle thin.

  8. I'm really pleased to have found your blog, this is on my list of 'must trys' along with the lasagne , the lamb biryani and the tagine. I always feel happier using slow cooker recipes from the u.k

  9. Glad to be of service, ma'am! Actually almost any lasagne recipe works in the slow cooker. I always do it that way now.

  11. Usually you simply double the time if you cook something on low but I wouldn't want to swear to it in this case so id check it an hour before you think it should be done.
